The UNM 28 Commission’s standard set included old standards for slaughterhouses that needed to be updated with regard to safety requirements.

In a first step, the work was initiated at national level (NF U 66-053 will be the first subject proposed at European level).

France (via UNM and AMICS) has been proactive in proposing to develop European standards in the slaughterhouse sector (creation in 2018 of the French working group: CEN/TC 153/WG 14 “Machines et équipements pour les abattoirs”). These projects will take into consideration current European regulations on machine safety (Directive 2006/42/EC) and animal welfare (EU Regulation 1099/2009).
